This one goes out to Lord Kingly and CJ, being that they are San Diego residents. Rob Halford, of Judas Priest, has been known to spend his time in Hillcrest, but I am sure Lord Kingly and CJ already knew that.
Judas Priest really started to become famous when they became targets of Tipper Gore's watchdog group, The Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC). The group was resposible for all the "Parental Guidance: Explicit Lyrics" labels on albums...oh joy. As you would guess, many musicians weren't too crazy about the idea. Here are a couple quotes.
The PMRC proposal is an ill-conceived piece of nonsense which fails to deliver any real benefits to children, infringes the civil liberties of people who are not children, and promises to keep the courts busy for years dealing with the interpretational and enforcemental problems inherent in the proposal's design.
It is my understanding that in law First Amendment issues are decided with a preference for the least restrictive alternative. In this context, the PMRC demands are the equivalent of treating dandruff by decapitation. - Frank Zappa

That which is denied becomes that which is most desired, and that which is hidden becomes that which is most interesting. Consequently, a great deal of time and energy is spent trying to get at what is being kept from you. - John Denver
I think both of these guys are right. What do you all think? Has music become more or less raunchy since the days of Judas Priest?
