Just found this quote in a programming book, of all things. John Stossel uses this saying a lot in comparing the juxtaposition of intentions and results. He usually uses it when talking about politicians' never ending quest to create utopia but in the process they end up creating hell.
“It is important not to let the perfect become the enemy of the good, even
when you can agree on what perfect is. Doubly so when you can't. As unpleasant
as it is to be trapped by past mistakes, you can't make any progress
by being afraid of your own shadow during design.”

I just heard or read this somewhere recently myself. Really good quote. May have been in that Heinlein book I just read.
