Hmm...

Old Surgeon General Claims Republicans censored him on everything. Other former Surgeon Genrals claim the same thing happened under Reagan and Clinton. But more than ever under Bush, of course. Seriously, I believe this happens and it sucks, but I'm sure it's happened relatively the same under every modern administration.

I don't know, one such "censorship" under Reagan was the AIDS "epidemic. Although Reagan's longstanding silence on the issue was not very wise, the issue of AIDS has become way overblown and it made Surgeon General Koop a celebrity. AIDS by it's very nature is political and it has been used as a tool by both sides of the political aisle. The same is happening today with new science. Question is, what does it all matter? Should the federal govt. fund medical research anyway?

Real doctors are not getting their news from the "Surgeon General" so why should we? The Surgeon General is not necessarily the best doctor but he is the medical mouthpiece of the Government. Unfortunately I must admit that when the Surgeon General does talk, I am even interested in what he has to say. THAT is why the censorship is viewed negatively. And if Republicans really are the party of "prinicple" then who cares about what Clinton did? Principle is not a comparative thing.
