Let's see if the Dems really are willing to wean ourselves off foreign oil. Here
Also, has anyone heard these numbers bandied around?
4% profit goes to the oil companies, 15% goes to the government in taxes.
Update: McCain calls for building 45 new nuclear reactors by 2030

To be truthful, both parties are to blame on this issue.
The vote to open oil exploration seems to come up every 10 or 15 years. In the 70's, 80's, and 90's, whether Dems or Repubs were in power, the option to explore was always voted down.
Shame on everyone.
Not to be a party honk, but that isn't necessarily true. In the 90's, Republicans pushed through anwar and Clinton vetoed it. States that are run by democratic houses have made it impossible to drill off the coast. Sure there are Republicans out there that agree with some restictions, mccain against anwar for one and crist who is just now seeing the light down in florida, but the idea that the blame is equally shared is wrong. From oil to nuclear energy it is clear which party supports it and which one does not.
P.S. as for the 70's, I can't respond to that, but from what I understand, during the 80's Dems controlled both houses and even if you were right, the republicans are on the right side of the issue today... Will the Dems join them?
