Ugh. Couldn't read the whole thing. Taibbi seems to have done a fair amount of research into AIGFP to have been able to lambaste Mr. DeSantis to such a degree. He probably rolls his eyes and spits out four-letter words at people who even thought about questioning Obamas relationship with Ayers or wondered just what all the hubub was about this Rezsco guy anyway.

I guess I'm too much of a capitalist. This guy stayed because we was promised a huge bonus by no less than Obama (remember Dodd said that the original agreement was no bonuses for the scumbags, but the "White House" made him rewrite it) and now their gonna renege on that agreement because they discovered that, *gasp*, people found it "distasteful". And this idiot RS write is completely cool with that. And he was probably completely cool with Cuomo threatening to release the names of these AIG guys to the angry mob waiting outside, too.

Everyday I am shocked and saddened at the direction this country is going. And it's only be 100 days.

I don't disagree with you exactly, but I do think it's one thing for DeSantis to have been screwed over, and it's another thing entirely to go write a big fat woe is me letter to the press. Oh, and by the way, check out what a great huimanitarian I am, blah, blah, blah. The issue here is that he may be entirely justified in getting that bonus, but what people can't understand is why people are getting bonuses like that in the first place, so who's supposed to feel bad for this guy? After a little thought, I am against the Government stepping in and taking control of those situations, but it is going to happen, and it is because these corporations, banks...etc. let it get to this point. This will set the precident and it is their fault. Nothing will ever be the same once it begins. The good news is, at least maybe they'll get around to rookie salaries in sports.

The Government is stepping in because they have become an invasive beast and not because the banks let it get to any sort of point. This govt. won't let a good crisis go to waste. The people have grown to expect the govt. to take control and now demand it. I have become more cynical than just feeling sad about where our country is headed. I am resolved to the fact that our country is going in the direction the people want it to.

MC: While I can see your point about him whining to the press about the whole affair, I almost saw it as a survival reflex. With the AGs in two states threatening to release names of bonus recipients, I can see why he would want people to know his pont of view. I think he looks less like some "Mr. Monopoly" characture, lighting cigars with $100 dollar bills and more like a "person" taht people might be less likely to string up if given the opprotunity. I guess I am so repulsed by the seperate facts that a) the government is now so heavily invested in AIG (and others) and b) the government thinks it's within the perview to rewrite contracts on the fly (and pass draconian legislation - 90% tax) just because it is politically expedient. Like Blogust said, I think the government (i.e. Obama and crew) were more than happy to take advantage of the crisis to advance their agenda.

I don't believe that I disagreed with that fact at all. I am not at all thrilled with what the Government is doing here and it scares the bejeezus out of me. I merely point out that seeking sympathy or exhoneration from the public might not be the best idea for execs like DeSantis (whether they were screwed over or not), and at the very least they shouldn't be surprised by this sort of reaction.

I also believe that the Rolling Stone writer is likely some bleeding heart socialist jerk, but that doesn't mean he doesn't make a few valid points in his rebuttal.

I guess, ultimately, that's all I am saying. They both have a point or two. That's why I posted both. But let's keep in mind that the second could not exist without the first.

Point taken.

I think the RS "rebuttal" of the DeSantis letter push me over the top, in a sense. We have the corrupt politician(s) using a scapegoat to weasel their way out of another mess, the bloated fat cat saying that he doesn;t really need his $700,000 (after tax) bonus as he has raped the economy for enough in years past and the stinky hippie spitting on him and shoving his middle finger in his face.

It's a three-fer.
