"Progressives" Are Nothing More Than Star Trek TNG Fans

I just finished watching all 7 seasons of The Next Generation and I have come to realize that the so called "progressives" are nothing more than Star Trek geeks. Every fiber of the Star Trek series is directly related to Progressive ideology. And I am going to prove it.

1.) The United Federation of Planets = The United Nations
The United Federation of Planets Flag and The U.N. Flag.

2.) Prime Directive. The point of the prime directive is that no outside interference should prevent societies from evolving naturally. So if there is a civil war or if genocide is occuring, the prime directive prohibits any help from the Enterprise. Oddly enough, Picard breaks the Prime Directive about a dozen times. Even he can't avoid breaking the one rule that should never be broken.

3.) Multiculturalism is a reoccuring theme in TNG. All cultures must be respected and tolerated no matter how brutal or barbaric the culture is. And compromising ones personal beliefs in order to get along with others is also a reoccuring theme. But they never investigate into whether it is actually culture, or some government imposed mandate that is in question.

4.) Money is no longer relevant in the lives of Star Trekkians. Food, clothing and various tools, such as phasers and drinking glasses, are made in replicators so the need for money has become obsolete. What drives people to achieve great things is nothing more than Personal satisfaction. Learning to "better oneselves" as the prime motivator.

5.) Since money is no longer valuable then what is? The anwer is usually arts and artifacts. Countless episodes are spent where Data is learning to paint, or Riker is acting in a play, or Picard is on some dig unearthing priceless Vulcan artifacts. This to me is a starving Portland artists wet dream. "Painting is more valuable than selling stereos? Where do I sign?"

6.) Here is the face of the only "Capitalists" in Star Trek. The Ferengi, whose soul purpose of the show is to show their greed and to swindle. They live by the motto "Buyer Beware."

7.) The Enterprise is not a battleship, but a ship of exploration, of scientific research and of peace. Sounds boring doesn't it? Well it is. And the writers of the show knew it. That is why so many episodes were dedicated to the Enterprise just kicking ass.

8.) If you watch enough shows you will also notice the inordinate amount of women doctors, scientists and admirals who seem to appear. I would venture to say about 90% of the time, but I could be wrong. Maybe 99%.

9.) Diplomacy is also a big one in TNG. A Romulan Warbird would be armed and ready to fire and Picard would call his staff into his ready room to discuss the situation. And they would normally find a diplomatic solution to the crisis. (By the way, I know I shouldn't be using words like always and usually and what have you, but the point of this post is for me to have a little fun.)

10.) Here is one my favorites. Counselor Troi and her quest to discover your intent by reading your emotions. Can't have a Progressive show without some emotional involvment.

Can't think of anything more. So I will leave you with this photo. The Juror who wore her uniform to the Clinton Whitewater trial. She was removed from the trial because she spoke with reporters. You can see her in the Trekkies and Trekkies 2 documentaries. During one part of Trekkies 2, she gets into a discussion with her co-worker about whether Star Wars was better or Star Trek. Her main argument was that Star Trek was more than a Sci-Fi show, but it was also a way of life and a philosophy.
Amen to that sister. It is a progressive one.

P.S. I realize that I started this post by saying "I just finished watching all 7 seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation" and I know how geeky that makes me look, but I am telling you, it was purely for scientific research. :-)

Well duh!

But, Picard does not try to negotiate with the Borg. He just kicks their ass. No talking.
