"We need to take a cue from White America and re-elect our leadership every four years. White folks realize that power corrupts. That’s why they placed term limits on the presidency. They know if you leave a man in power too long he quits looking out for the interest of his constituency and starts looking out for his own best interest."
I caught that too. That statement is a bit too racially divisive for me as well as being a thinly veiled jab at Bush, but the overall theme of the editorial is pretty good stuff.
Very good stuff. And, I thought the tone of that paragraph was a bit off, but if the deeper message is that people do look out for their own best interests when in positions of power, I agree wholeheartedly. That is an absolute truth.
I too rolled my eyes at that re-election comment. Nevermind the fact that the most important elections are usually local. New Orleans comes to mind...
This was the most powerful paragraph in my view:
"If we had the proper level of self-respect, we wouldn’t act like it’s only a crime when a white man disrespects us. We hold Imus to a higher standard than we hold ourselves. That’s a (freaking) shame."
Case in point, see the email my girl sent me. I posted it on the previous Imus entry.
The Duke case was about a white politician using racial issues to win an election in a predominantly black community. Nifong needs to apologize. And then they need to nail his ass to the wall. This happens far too often these days. Fucking sociopath out there ruining lives for his own gain.
Also, the bitch who was with the accuser needs to apologize for calling a publicist and asking them how best to use the situation to her advantage. You know, money and famewise.
You are right on those points. Those two need to apologize also.
But Jackson and Sharpton made their points of view very public. I remember seeing Jackson on Fox, and Hannity said (paraphrase) "Here you are asking for justice for this black woman because you are just assuming the 3 white kids are guilty. What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty?"
Jackson went off on some non-related response. Jackson too condemned these 3.
Believe me, Baron, I think there are plenty of things those two need to apologize for. I meant to point out more the people directly involved in that fiasco.

Cool. This was an odd comment though

But overall very nice.

In my opinion Obama is just saying "I am too Black."

Imus went to the "President" and "Vice President" and said "I'm sorry".
What are the chances "President" and "Vice President" will apologize to these three for their own harsh words cast before they were found guilty?
Jackson and Sharpton need racism in order to remain relevant. The Duke situation was nothing more than another dog and pony show.

MC,
