Don't worry. Once the students get into college, their understanding of the war will be a lot more sophisticated.
1.)FDR had information that the Japanese were going to bomb Pearl Harbor, but did nothing.
2.)They will come to realize that the American government callously put Japanese families into internment camps. (which was mentioned in the article, but not nearly enough times to sink in)
3.)That America is the only country to ever drop a nuclear bomb on another country. Killing tens of thousands of innocent civilians
4.)Bush = Hitler (if they don't know that already)
What sickens me the most is how the teacher hopes the students will do her job for her, by learning about WWII on their own time. Now I do think children should study this stuff on their own, but it is clear these teachers aren't doing their jobs. I don't blame them though. Schools are getting shittier and home study is sounding more and more attractive everyday.

Yep and we pay $500 billion a year for public education.
Has the war even cost that much yet?
Awesome point. More money goes to teaching about wars fought than it ever did fighting them.
Wait, that came out all jumbled, but I think you know what I mean.
