I'm Annoyed At My Elected Officials And My News People.

So our little battle in the beach community here for years has been the town council's attempt to ban drinking on the beach. Every couple of years they put some drinking ban on the ballet citing violence and police expense and underage consumption blah, blah blah. One time they even tried to sneak it in without even putting it up for public vote so we had to petition for it to be on the ballot. And what do you know? We voted against it. The community votes it down every time. But they keep throwing it out there again and again. My favorite part is that they get the media to put the word out that everybody is really for the ban. There was a town council meeting just a few days ago, and according to the article NBC news put out the next day, the support of the ban was overwhelming. Business owners and home owners were going bonkers for hours pleading with the town council to save our town from the scourge of drinking on the beach. I'd link you the article, but it's been edited. Now it looks like this:

Now I guess only one guy seemd all that upset and the argument seems a little more balanced between the two sides. Funny thing is, it's not balanced at all. Ever. In fact, if you check out NBC's very own poll you'll see that 75% of the people who voted are against the ban. Maybe that's why NBC toned down the article. Or maybe it's because a group called freepb, org sent out photos of the very same town council meeting showing a majority of the people wearing "Keep Freedom Free" hats that they provided. Sick what a handful of people with some power can try to pull off. Nice job journalism.

In three weeks I will be enjoying a beer in PB. I hope it is not my last.

I always thought it was illegal to drink in public, which is what drinking on the beach is, no?

Anyway, what's a beach without a little hooliganism?

Being intoxicated, basically, stumbling drunk, in public is against the law, but they don't want to have to enforce it, so they try to throw the drinking out altogether.

drinking in parks and beaches and those types of places is usually allowed, but every once in awhile we have to go through this

If you could put a link to freepb.org it would be great!
Thanks and keep up the good fight.

A hot day at the Beach in San Diego, CA swimming and soaking up rays would not be the same if I could not enjoy a few ICE COLD BREWS. Nothing is better than watching the sunset, waiting for the elusive "green flash", raising my beer toasting with good friends. Thanks FreePB.org for doing all you great work informing the community about these knuckle heads who want to make a great day at the beach illegal!
