Assassination of the Archduke

I couldn't resist. I have to make one last post. In 1914 Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated by Serbian Nationalist, Gavrilo Princip. The shooting led to war between Austrian and Serbia, which escalated into WWI. Are we seeing the same thing today? Something relatively small escalating into something bigger? Are the Danish Cartoons the proverbial straw that broke the Camel Jock...ummm...back. (I almost said it) Who is to say, but it sure is growing. Read

There was an article this morning in Contra Costa Times about a Turkish film "Wolves in the Valley" that, according to the article, depicts U.S. soldiers as "the bad guys." The whole thing plays off an incident where Turkish soldiers were paraded through a city in Iraq with bags on their heads. According to the Turks it was the most shameful time for their people. So, if I can exaggerate to try and make a point: George Bush said something a long time ago about being chosen by God or something to that effect; the U.S. soldiers in the film were following orders by our president (chosen by God); then perhaps this film, which depicts the "chosen" leaders' army as the bad guys is blasphemous and insulting. Can we then justify torching, stoning, and rioting in protest of the film? Should we burn the Turkish flag and attack non-Christians?

I know it's a big stretch, I just have a hard time wrapping my mind around the fanatacism and hypocrisy surrounding these stupid cartoons.

The most screwed up thing about this movie? Billy Zane stars. Ouch, talk about casting the US in a bad light.
