Bush Says He Is Not A Literalist...

...when reading the Bible.
But that he does believe one lesson is literally true.
'God sent a son.'

I basically believe like he does.

The bible uses anaolgy and metaphor all over the place. There are certain things that we can't comprehend, so they are told to us in terms that we can understand.

Is the Adam and Eve story literal or is it a story that describes an important event in simpler terms?

Same with the seven day creation story.

I believe its more about the spirit of the story, not the word for word interpretion.

What's the spirit of the Adam and Eve story? We chose our own way even though God warned us of the implications of our actions. We have free will.

What's the sprirt of the creation story? That God created the universe.

I believe that God used Evolution to get us where we are also. I don't believe in a strict 7 day creation event.
